Father's Day 2026
Happy Father’s Day to all, including myself !
This morning, I wish to share some thoughts about being a father.
A
few days’ ago, my wife and I were having dim sum at Foo Hing restaurant in
Puchong, and we notice an extended family taking up three tables beside
us. One table was full of kids playing,
eating, or watching their mobile phones.
There were two other babies at the next table. Looking at them brought back fond memories of
when my youngest daughter was just a baby.
I dunno if I have shared about this incident before.
Our Care Group was having supper at the hawkers area at the Mentari shops and we were all sitting by the roadside. There were plastic stools and tables arranged at the parking lots. Wei En was just a baby then. I cannot remember how old she was, but definitely less than a year old. And I was carrying her in my arms sitting on the plastic stool while waiting for the food to come. Then suddenly, the legs of the cheap plastic stool just gave way and collapsed underneath me!
Normally, if we were to fall down, we would instinctively stretch out our hands to break the fall. Sometimes, if we were to place our hands at the wrong angle, we might even sprain or dislocate our hand.
So, when the plastic stool collapsed under me, what did I do?
I
could not stretch out my hands to try to break the fall. Instead I held Wei En tightly in my arms
because my highest priority was to keep my baby safe. So, die, die lah, I just held my baby tightly
and I fell down backwards onto the road surface.
Praise God, Wei En was not hurt at all.
At that moment, I was the greatest hero in my own eyes! Any father would have had that wonderful, elated feeling if he managed to protect his own child from harm…
Now,
if an imperfect earthly father like me would risk my own safety just to protect
my daughter, won’t our perfect, loving, heavenly father do much, much, much
more for us?
Deuteronomy 33:27
“The
eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”
Yes. Underneath us are our heavenly Father’s everlasting arms! He will carry us and keep us in the hollow of His hand.
I can still remember an old chorus from my younger days:
Safe am I (safe am I), Safe am I (safe am I)
In
the hollow of His Hand
Sheltered
o’er (sheltered o’er), Sheltered o’er (sheltered o’er)
By
His love for evermore.
No
ill can harm me, No foe alarm me
For
He keeps both day and night.
Safe
am I (safe am I), Safe am I (safe am I)
In
the hollow of His Hand.
Our
God is a great and awesome God.
He
is also our loving heavenly Father.
He
will never leave us nor forsake us
Even
when we are faithless, He remains faithful for He cannot deny Himself.
He
never lets go of our hand.
And even when we are at the lowest point of our lives, if we surrender to him, we will always find ourselves in the hollow of His hands, and because we are already at the
bottom, the only way to go next is up!
Our Heavenly Father will always carry us through!
Happy Father's Day, again!
